I've been using ADS for some time with XBase++ (a clipper compiler).
Works well. ADS is a SQL server that supports DBF database files
(although it does have it's database formats with extra features).
They also provide a free 'local server' for sites with only a couple
of users. This uses the same API but works like Fox, i.e. not
client-server based.

The nice thing about XBase++ is that it provides an ADS database
engine where normal DBF type operations are passed to the server to
execute.

It's relatively cheap too. We recommend all our clients use it (and
we are a reseller so make a small markup :-)
