I have an LCD monitor with a 1440x900 pixel display. The ATI Rage XL PCI video card I am using has a maximum resolution as now installed of 1600x1200. ATI considers the card obsolete. The last drivers they have available are from 2002 which apparently was before the advent of my display's screen format. Google found some info about editing the driver setup information file so I used that to add the 1440x900 format to the atiixpad.inf file and did a reinstall. This did not seem to have any effect. I am totally in the dark with how the operating system handles the display adapter. Does it consult the .inf file only at installation or does it read it each time the system boots? Is the same info in the registry and can I safely change it there? I think I'll just buy another card unless someone has another suggestion of how to convince the display adapter to operate at 1440x900. TIA for any comments, Joe
