I can't remember the detailed circumstances but I think it was a power spike or something similar rather than a power failure. The app was a very old one that had been ported from, I believe, Fox 2.0 for Mac to VFP 5 via several other versions en-route. Most of the code was .spr files cut and pasted into .prgs which we had to port to VFP5 at minimal cost so there was no budget for a re-write. The bank had just moved to PCs from Macs and was having an all-singing, all-dancing app written to replace this app and several others. Unfortunately the new app was canned in favour of a web-based system so our short-term patch lasted longer (much longer) than expected. I did suggest a mirroring system to record all data changes on another machine as a result of this incident and wrote a prototype which was turned down as my team leader at the time was too frightened to make any changes! The prototype came in useful later though as I adapted the principles for another app.
My main point however was that one should not be fooled into thinking that only the CDX would be damaged by a power outage or spike. UPSs are so cheap now there is no excuse.
