When I've done this before (with XP), if you try to do it as a new 
install, when you come to the option of where to put the OS (pick a 
partition).  It should then prompt you saying that windows already 
exists on this machine and give you an option to do a repair, which 
should just overwrite the system files and keep user folders etc.  Mind 
you, I'd always backup first :-)
