20 years BAH, a mere beginner, not even through your apprenticeship as of
yet!

As for the cable untangling I remember back to university days doing a
Topology course where you have to classify and work out if a coil of rope is
knotted or not (so to speak). It was really interesting developing models of
the knotted rope and algorithms to determine the complexity of the knots.

Anyhow a Stanley knife normally takes care of knotted cables - and the
benefit is that you end up with much shorter cables that are incapable of
getting knotted!
