This is most certainly off topic but some of you know my daughter Jamie. I pitied the poor sucker that ended up with her because he would have so much to live up to. Well Danny just left the house here and since he met Jamie he went to Pan Am school and became an airline pilot and now works full time for Sky West. Jamie is a commercial representative for Trane Air conditioning (we live in Arizona where air conditioners come in handy).
Since we're on the subject there is a great story about her and then I'll crawl back in my hole. The first Whilfest I took Jamie to (1999 maybe). I went down to the bar and it reminded me of the last supper. Jamie was surrounded by Rick Straul, Marcus, Kevin, Jim Duffy, and on and on. She said "come over here dad and meet some really cool people." Prior to that the only gurus I had met was Ed Leafe and Whil. Later that night she introduced me to Ken Levy. She was shooting pool with Ken Levy and they were down to the eight ball. Ken said, what do you want if I miss. Jamie (I can't imagine where she got this) said "Have an open tables dialog box throw and error instead of popping up." Ken said, "I can do better than that. I will name the next version after you." Ken lost. The first time I met Yag was when he came to our Phoenix user group. Fred Taylor and Drew Speedie and the usual suspects were there. He demonstrated VFP8. All references to the product were "Jamie". A father couldn't be more proud than to have a Microsoft product named after his daughter! There were so many great times at Whilfest. The Halloween contest; the 2000 presidential election; and just a gathering of FoxPro folks having a good time. Maybe we can do it again some time. It may not be FoxPro but it will be fun. Something needs to be said. I am using Ubunto 7.10 with virtual boxes of XP and everything else. It is a WONDERFUL operating system. My mom even said it was "pretty". Well, Linux has come of age and I can only appreciate the efforts of Whil and Ed and Paul and Ted and Kevin Cully and everyone else that dipped their tows in the water of Linux or OSX. Especially Whil. I was there when he passed out Red Hat at Whilfest. Fred Taylor and I were all a buzz about what he heck Whil was up to. These guys had to struggle with Linux where we can now just boot and enjoy. I will end this lengthy email with the 2008 official appreciation for not only a job well done, but great risk in accomplishing that job. The award winners are: Envelope please: Whil Hentzen Ed Leafe Thanks for everything guys.
