I don't think anyone would argue that things done in the past were despicable.
The very nature of slavery, the idea of one man owning another, is an
abomination. Terrible things were also done to the American Indians. However
most of this is in the past, perpetrated by people who are long dead on people
who are long dead.
Other than massive redistribution of wealth (which would only be tempoary
without a change in thinking)... the people still whining about the past have
no solutions. The are spreading discord and keeping their followers from
taking advantage of the good this country has to offer by turning up thier
noses at "white mans ways".
They are cutting off their noses to spite their faces! Much that they turn
down, simply because white folks do them are not really "white mans ways", but
things that have been found to work. We see the same thinking in the corporate
world with the "not invented here" syndrome.
People like Rev Wright are angry and their anger colors their thinking. I'm
not going to say he has nothing to be angry about or that I would not be angry
myself if I were in his position. But what he is doing is harming his
followers by transferring his anger to them and keeping them from moving
forward with their lives.
Sure many blacks were treated badly, and sure the KKK (the terrorist arm of the
Democratic Party) intimidated blacks so they would not vote in the south, sure
there was all kinds of discrimination against blacks... but if they (and we)
fixate on the past, we will get the results of the past. Just like I need to
remove hate and malace toward those who have hurt me from my thinking so I can
move forward, so do the they otherwise it will eat them up... which it has been
doing.
One more thing, I will not call them African-Americans. They are Americans and
I am just as angry about the black Americans killed on 9/11 as I am the white
ones. There are no valueless lives.
