Subject: [NF] XP SP2 grief

Greetings All!

I have a client who tried to run an XP Pro SP2 update on his home PC (at
long last). All went well other than the fact that his desktop icons do
not
come up any longer upon reboot. He end up having to manually fire off
the
.lnk file for his settings, then all is okay. He does get an error
message
that says"

(In the title bar >) /idlist,:624:2744, c:\documents

(In the error box >) windows could not find '/idlist,:624:2744,
c:\documents

t looks to me like a Registry value is trying to find a file in the
"c:\documents and settings" directory, but as though it is not qualified
with being nested within double-quotes, hence it is hitting the first
nested
<space> character in the path and crapping out there. I have yet to
search
his Registry, but that will be my next step. BTW, when I uninstalled
SP2
the problem went away. After reinstalling SP2 it was back. Googling
and
looking as M$ KB yielded some results, but none I could get my teeth
into.

Everything else on the PC is running fine, other than the fact I think
he
ought to replace XP with Ubuntu (I have become an extremist!
Aaaaggghhh!!!)

Thanks!

Gil
