Hey - -- -- - - --

One of the wonderful little surprises that greeted me coming home
from vacation was that my server raid software is reporting a pending
failure.

Specifically:

  - the Box is W2K server, fully SP'ed
  - the utility reporting it is Promise Technology "FactCheck"
monitoring utility
  - the disks are Maxtor 120 gb, IDE's (4g120j6)
  - the RAID controller is "MBFastTrak 133 Lite (5275)"
  - the utility says that one of them is "critical; failure predicted"
  - when I boot the machine, it tells me to power down and replace
the disk.

I am perusing the manufacturer's web site as we "speak," but in the
meanwhile: people who are better at the hardware end than me:

Questions:

  - Do I have to replace it with exactly the same model? A quick
search finds few new ones, mostly refurbs as i would expect with a
3-4 year old drive.
  - Better to start over with 2 new drives?
  - Other/better questions I should be asking, but don't know enough
to do?

Thanks

Ken
