As far as you don't download stuff so heavily, I think it will be ok.

I am a current user of Verizon broadband Wireless with my Dell notebook.
I am not sure about the definition of "average user", but in my case, I
usually use wired connection whenever possible, at home, at school or at
work.
I only use wireless while on the road, in the hotel room or at the airport,
which accounts for about 8-10 nights a month.
I tend to download some TV dramas with bittorrents, but I wouldn't recommend
that.
