I always thought Gil was a bit odd also, until I realized he was my "Evil
Other Self", at which point I grew even more convinced he was representative
all things of foulness on our planet. But, I for one, can state that
without a doubt Gil is not really as dead as supposed in the article Ed
Leafe dug out for us all to enjoy. He merely sleeps at odd hours with his 3
Siberian Huskies (not "with the fish", as in "The Godfather").

That said, how to make this a legitimate [NF] subject... Hmmm, my specialty
and I can't think of one reasonable way to not make this [OT]. Oh, here
goes, I have it... Ed started this as [NF], so surely there is merit in him
having done this, even if he did it knowing full well I do not read [OT] and
wanted to make damned sure I saw this thread in all its glory. Nice try, it
worked <g>...

Okay, that is it for the alleged [NF] stuff. Fun is fun, but since I have
the [NF] floor in what really ought to be [OT], the following is optional,
extra credit reading <g>. If you do not want to read something that really
pushes the edge for a [NF] add-on, stop here. Read no further...

Warning - [OT] below

I am certain I could think of worse things than Gil being dead, but none
come to mind right now... But for the moment at least let's be kind to that
poor bastard, as he needs some caring thoughts at the moment. Why? Well,
how about he had rented his SoCal home to a couple who within a few months
found the young wife had cervical cancer - and they had no medical
insurance. Gil and his wife Lynda (this is strange talking about myself in
the 3rd person) opted to not make the couple leave, or kicking their young
children out onto the street (they had no safety net or relatives that could
help them). So the Hales opted to "Do The Right Thing", and carried the
young couple and their young children for 18 months, and allowed the husband
to do some work on the house that really was not needed as rental offset.
Heck, they even got them a high speed Internet connection and a nice Compaq
PC so the wife could work from home after she had begun her recovery. The
rest of the rental expense was forgiven. In 2006 Gil & Lynda incurred a
$17,000 write off, and in 2007 another $21,000 write off, for taxes (not
that they needed it) - all in the name of trying to be decent people when
they were in a position to be of help to this beleaguered family. In late
December, 2007, the couple found a friend who had room in their new home for
them to live in for free, so they left the Hale House. And all of this was
happening when Gil's own hourly physical system work & cabling related
income had dropped substantially due to his nerve damage in his neck.

Upon inspection by their Property Manager it was found that in the last 2-3
months of the wretched family remaining in the house they had damaged the
carpets throughout the house, damaged each of the alarm security window
screens ($300.00 each. Each one was cut), and the walls had been muddied and
soiled to the point where the entire interior had to be scrubbed down and
repainted. Now, bear in mind that Gil had been in the home during his
frequent SoCal visits to see what had been done with the various house
projects, and setting up the PC he purchased for the family to use. It had
been kept in good condition inside, at least until late October, 2007. The
meager $1,200 security deposit had already been applied to the last month of
rent, so the Hales took it in the shorts for yet another $6,800 for carpet
replacement, security system repairs, and repainting, which took about 5
weeks to get scheduled and completed. And now the house has been sitting
empty, awaiting another tenant since mid February with a cash burn rate of
$2,000 per month for all services (swimming pool service, soft water
service, lawn service, alarm service with telco interface, pest control
service, etc. This ain't some shabby hut) and utilities, taxes, insurance,
etc.

So, NO MORE MR. NICE GUY! Indeed the old saying is true, "No Good Deed Ever
Goes Unpunished." No sense in tracking the jerk down and suing him, he has
no money. Now the mantra around here is simply, "Pay the rent or our
Property Manager will make certain you are gone quickly." The Property
Manager has been given very clear instructions to never, ever share any
personal tragedy stories with the Hales about any tenant again, ever. We do
not want to hear it, we did our Lifetime Penance. We are done.

Why the rant? Why, of course I am taking full advantage of the Ed Leafe
[NF] for what should be an [OT] thread... I figure as long as I am
allegedly dead, what the hell? Who's gonna stop me <g>...
