The primary developer of Transana, Dr. David Woods, is a great guy. Transana is developed using wxPython, and David is active on the wxPython list. I've never used the product myself, but based on his posts I'd be very confident in the product. I would download the free demo version and then pay the reasonable $50 if it turns out to be useful for your client.
