There's such pressure to stay up to date with service packs and updates,
but back up a minute and ask yourself:

+ Is my SP2 system working the way I want it?

+ Do I have reasonable protections in place, external to the system, to
keep attackers out (a firewall)?

+ Am I needing to install new apps or update existing apps on a regular
basis?

I say, if you answer "yes", "yes", and "no", then turn off the update
service and keep the system as it is right now. There is NO REASON to
risk future updates causing you grief.

Once I have a production system working how it is intended to work,
unless there's some huge security problem that directly affects the
system, I'm not going to update it.

One such system has been running Linux Fedora Core 3 since late 2004,
with zero updates. This machine serves DNS, DHCP, internal web, internal
email and webmail, and Windows file sharing. It is coming time to
upgrade the hardware (it is a 3.5 year old machine), at which point I'll
certainly use a more modern operating system, but the point is: IF IT
WORKS, DON'T FIX IT! If it is stable, don't risk destabilizing it.

My not so humble opinion!
Paul
