This ought to qualify as Not Fox: Really? Which Conference? I'm
attending the Red Hat Summit, FUDCon and An Event Apart in Boston
during June.

Not someplace I've ever stayed overnight as it's close enough to commute.

Boston's pretty pricey. That's why I commute :) OTOH, if I'm "from
away" attending a conference, the conference hotel is the best bet. Or
one within staggering distance. OTOOH, if you don't want to hang with
your airline buddies, the city is tiny (only 1 mile on a side) and
anyplace would do. Cab/subway/bus can get you anywhere, though
off-hours transport gets thin. If you really want to shop for cheap,
one of the the travel sites is probably best for advice. (Or advise.)
Boston.com is the daily paper and advertises pretty much anything
going on.

Transport: MBTA. Get yourself a one-week pass and enjoy the subway.
Not The Tube, but not bad for the oldest subway in the U.S. Don't
drive in the city of Boston; that's a job best left to professionals,
maniacs and locals, but that's redundant. Besides, they drive on the
opposite side. And the sidewalks.

Cape Cod and the Islands, otoh, are pricey in-season. There are
ferries that go to the islands from Falmouth/Wood's Hole and Hyannis.
There are small planes. And I believe there are buses from Boston
south. On the islands, you're either going to bike or need a car,
depending on whether you stay in town or do the beach/sightseeing
thing. Only been once to the Vineyard; it was beautiful, but don't
have any advice on where to stay.

Hope you enjoy the Bay State. It's my favorite of the 50!
