Hi Leland!

A direct democracy decides every question by an election. The people
would think they were controlling everything, but, of course, the people
who counted the votes would be the actual power. Kind of what Bill
Arnold wants to have as evidenced by his occasional diatribes, with
himself and maybe commondreams at the switch of course.

With a representative form such as the republic we have there are checks
and balances so no one can tell us how we voted when it is really how
they *say* we voted. We vote for electors who vote for the president, we
vote for representatives and senators who make the legislative
decisions, we vote for local officials who make local decisions.
