The error messages point to a file association issue, but I can't figure out
why, and maybe that's just a "red herring".
Here is my temporary solution.
mcheck = LOCFILE("f:\scans\hsf\checks\*.pdf","pdf","Checks")
loIE = Createobject("internetexplorer.application")
loIE.Navigate(mcheck)
This opens a dialog so the user can pick which check to view (we use a
standard naming convention (account number, datetime), and a browser opens
with the check selected.
If I ever find out what the glitch is with Adobe, you will all be the first
to know, and thanks for everyone's helpful suggestions.

Subject: RE: pdf in vfp
You can check this out, but the fifth parameter is the folder, and the
second parameter is the file
name. You have combined them in your code.
declare long ShellExecute in "shell32.dll" ;
long hwnd, ;
string lpszOp, ;
string lpszFile, ;
string lpszParams, ;
string lpszDir, ;
long nShowCmd
ShellExecute(0,'Open', ALLTRIM(checks.filename) + ".pdf",'',
alltrim(checks.pathname),0)
