Perhaps. A large majority of US citizens drink Budweiser, and I can't
understand that, either.

It's an interesting single-blind experiment that proves the brand
"Vista" has been poisoned. And I don't doubt that the testers set the
people up with brand-new, top-of-the-line machines. Lots of the Vista
heartaches no doubt came from marginal machines and upgrades.

Recently, I've heard from a relative and two business associates who
switched from Windows (likely XP, not Vista) to the Macintosh, and all
three swear they won't go back, that they'd forgotten how much fun it
could be to use a computer, and that they're enjoying their new-found
productivity. These were unsolicited testimonials from people who are
just trying to use computers as tools, and surprised me.

At last night's Python meeting, there was equal representation of
Windows, Linux and Mac OS X machines, and all of the attendees were
really enjoying Python (and FireFox, and NetBeans and Eclipse, and
SciTE), not their OS. For the most part, except when you use
OS-specific features (read:proprietary?) like COM or QuickTime, the
experience is the same, and the OS is as relevant as which brand of
gas you used to get to the meeting. I hope that as OSes become more of
a commodity item, those of inferior quality will just naturally fade
from market share.
