Luckily, on the internet, a generation lasts about 37 femtoseconds. As they state on their announcements page, http://www.cuil.com/info/announcements/, launch day was a bit overwhelming. But, as you said, they are scaling. It will be interesting to see if they come up with a better mousetrap. At the moment, a lot of searchs I'm getting relevant results with associated pictures that don't match up.
