Like the Vista rollout or the iPhone G3 first week disasters, the
folks who had troubles are 100x louder than the people for whom it
worked fine. A brand can get a bad rep that can take a long time to
shake. In the consumer world, a bad brand name can take a generation
to shake. Luckily, on the internet, a generation lasts about 37
femtoseconds.

As they state on their announcements page,
http://www.cuil.com/info/announcements/, launch day was a bit
overwhelming. But, as you said, they are scaling.

It will be interesting to see if they come up with a better mousetrap.
At the moment, a lot of searchs I'm getting relevant results with
associated pictures that don't match up.

Time will tell...
