>At what point in USA political history, (eg the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, >1990, etc), did campaigning become so pointless, ugly, and deceitful.
I guess when we got candidates that were offensive, self centered, like a movie star who is without substance as well as pointless, ugly, and deceitful. >It hasn't been that long ago that politician defined themselves in terms >of where the stood on the issue of the day, and what they had to offer >in the way of leadership, which is what really matters. Because we can no longer believe candidates when they try to define themselves. So often they turn out to be something other than what they told us they were. In other words... they lie. For instance, BHO tells us some of the things he wants to do to us, but then grossly underestimates the costs and other negative side effects... just like his buddy, the champion swimmer of Chappaquidick Island Is that honest? Not only no, but heck NO! Only a twit would take a candidate at his or her word... and we can't depend on the main stream media anymore. They've become just another PR organization for some candidates. People may fuss about W, and some is justified, but if we look to congress, they have an approval rating half of his abysmal number.
