The surge probably isn't the main influence leading to a reduction of
violence in Iraq.

It is likely that the approaching end to the Bush Administration has
more to do with the improvement in Iraq, than the surge. With the
likely election of a Democratically controlled congress, and Barack
Obama or John McCain as president, there is no longer a motivation to
drive America out of Iraq with violence; since, the end of the
occupation is approaching irregardless, so sacrificing additional lives
would be in vain. The order for the withdrawal of American troops from
Iraq should have be issued years ago.

All the Iraqi people need to do is hunker down and wait for the new
administration to begin a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. Even
John McCain now favors withdrawing troops, Also, the approaching
withdrawal of troops from Iraq is putting pressure on the Iraqi
parliament to finally seek a political solution to their problems,
before American troops pulls out.
