His first duty station was in Kuwait, later in Afghanistan. After he served his time overseas he returned to his highly successful Oral Surgery practice in Southern California - long enough to decide to sell the practice and devote his skills to our nation on behalf of our military personnel who so badly needed him. He sold the practice, most of his "toys" (Porsche, Audi, BMWs, etc.), his magnificent house, and moved to San Antonio, TX, where he now trains Army Oral Surgeons everything they can possibly absorb about his art. He was interviewed twice on the CNN Paula Zahn Now show, and an article was written on him by the Los Angles Daily News in 2005. I shared the .mpg clips of the CNN interviews and a .jpg file of the Daily News article with many of the recipients of this eMail back in 2005. The Army wanted to make a "Poster Boy" of him, but he preferred to not make a big deal of his decision, as his desire was not to enshroud himself in national glory, but to simply give back to our nation a part of what he had received as a civilian practitioner. He exchanged a 7 figure income for the income of a soldier, an incredible decision that has changed the lives of many grateful military patients, parents, family members, spouses, and students of his craft. The author of the 2005 Daily News article, Dennis McCarthy, wrote a follow-up article on my brother the other day. I wanted to share that article with you, as so many of the folks who had received the information about my brother in 2005 expressed a deep appreciation for me having provided information on the initial article and CNN interviews. So, attached to this eMail is the latest Daily News article from 8/14/2008. Obviously I am very proud of my brother for having made a decision to offer his skills to our military personnel. My brother and I grew up in a military family, as my father was also physician in the Army. We both know how tough that lifestyle can be, and he walked into his new life with both eyes wide open. Putting politics and feelings about the conflicts our current administration felt to compelled to drag our country into, my brother has indeed done "The Right Thing For The Right Reasons".
