You forget that regulations are created by people, many of whom have been on 
the take from special interests for years.  When you examine regulations, you 
will see that so many actually benefit particular industries or businesses 
rather than the public.  They are often used to restrict competition or limit 
the publics recourse against some business.  

I would pose the problem in another way.  Tell me something, whether regulation 
or operation, that the government does right.  I will admit there are probably 
some things... but none come to mind.
