First, if I was a thief, the first time a service asked me for a 
keyword, I'd disable the service.  :-)
(Actually, I'd just format the hard drive and install Linux)  (Yeah, 
yeah, I know..... assuming I could decide *which* distro to install)

Second, I know there is software that already does this.  And no offense 
meant to you, but it doesn't tip off the thief by asking for a key.  It 
just phones in, period, and if it's stolen, the real user goes to a web 
site, enters the "I've been robbed!" code, and the next time the program 
phones home, it proceeds pretty much as you've described.  I *THINK* 
there is even some sort of GPS device you can get, but that could just 
be the beer talking.
