The black eye looks healed. Usually a black eye will give you some eye damage, or turn the eye red too, none here. I wonder if that's a bruise or makeup.
The wound being so superficial makes it really suspect. If someone was going to carve out a "B", they wouldn't do it with such a superficial wound. Finally, what crook is going to stick around after they get the money.
