You might want to look at Circuit City, if you have one of the stores that is closing, nearby. I'm going to one tomorrow to see about getting some motherboards, cpus and memory at 40% off. We have two stores here, in the hood, that are closing.

I have been using an AMD 1800, 2Gb Win XP Pro machine for several years, but it is beginning to show its age with newer apps requiring more performance. I am torn between a Dell Precision machine (from Dell Outlet of course) running XP Pro, and an Apple Mac Pro. I have been using dual monitors for some time, and am looking for at least 4Gb RAM to run with. If I go Apple I end up relicensing a lot of software, unless I find I can run older Win apps under VMWare (I have used Parallels on several iMac and Mac notebook machines - nice, but time to look at VMWare). And I will end up investing at least twice as much in the machiery itself (just under $5k). But, I will have a Mac OS X, Linux and Windows capable machine on tap for whatever may suit my fancy. And I will have some serious bragging rights. Then again, I could have 2 new Dell Precision PCs for the same investment, and only Linux as an alternate OS. Oh, decisions, decisions... Too many choices.
