Ricardo,

>> Your client forgot an important question, one of sound solid business sense.
>> What do I win with
this change?<<

Do you know my client? No, and because you don't your statement is quite
incorrect, and is actually
way, way off mark. The statement I posted is only addressing the one aspect of
their decision. They
had read that is the deal breaker for so many alleged experts who claim Vista
is unusable because of
all the changes in the UI and menus, and the UAC. Same for Office 2007 and the
ribbon control. Sure
it is hard to change for many people, and automatics become new learning
curves. My client did
evaluate where they could win with Vista on new hardware. The decision is not
based on one simple
requirement. I am surprised that you would consider this a possibility.

Your point about retraining is valid though, and one that is not part of the
discussion of like vs.
dislike of the OS so far. It is more of the investment a company has to make in
any new OS rollout,
and is not trivial compared to the replacement of the equipment and the
licensing of the new
software they have to purchase to run their accounting, and other core
business. This is a huge
investment by any company. The good news is that it is done once every 5 years
or so. Heck, I have
clients still using DOS and Windows 98 and this was released more than 10 years
ago.

The decision had nothing to do with giving Microsoft money or to get some eye
candy, it had
everything to do with making my customer's staff more productive, their
infrastructure more stable,
and a plan to improve profitability. This is not a one-size-fits-all solution.
A lot of it depends
on what they are doing, how many people are involved, and the downtime involved
in getting the
switch made. I think too much is made of recommendations from people that one
thing is bad for
everyone because of the experience they have running it for themselves. It is
the single reason I
try to get the opinions of many before I decide what is best for me or my
customers.

Could they have stuck with Windows XP? Sure. Did it make sense for them, no. Is
it right for
everyone? Nope.
