There were several motivating factors for starting it. First, several
people asked me if there was a way to provide an alternative to UT
that wouldn't suffer from the same heavy-handed policies. Second, I
had a new Linux server and wanted to see how much stuff I could run on
it. Third, I thought it would be good to run a PHP-based system to
force me to learn PHP.
The anti-UT thing kinda died out as people found lots of other sites
for information on the web. And I learned enough PHP to learn that I
don't want to ever work in PHP again. ;-)
