News for the UK market:

Former Tesco CIO joins HMRC

Non-exec techie gets on board

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has snapped up former Tesco CIO Colin
Cobain as a non-executive director.

Cobain, who stepped down from Tesco in 2007 after six years with the
retail giant, will sit on the HMRC board.

According to HMRC, the board's job is to give the department "strategic
leadership", oversee its governance and performance as well as green
light business plans.

Cobain is currently interim group CIO with SABMiller - the brewer behind
beer brands including Miller and Peroni - and chairman of medical
technology company Safe Surgery Systems. Previously, Cobain has held
positions including IT director with EMI Thorn and Rumbelows.

Cobain will be joined by three other newly appointed non-executive
directors at the HMRC: Philippa Hird, Phil Hodkinson and Dame Sue
Street, with all appointments made for a three-year period.

Maybe we will have joined up online systems that work properly.

Tesco used to be the 3rd/4th largest supermarket chain 15+ years ago.
Now they are no1, 60% of money spend on food goes through their tills.
They introduced a variety of new methods of selling, Club cards, banking
online, insurance.

(Wife's car got bumped this morning, our insurance is with Tesco as is
the offending driver)

If I remember right his salary at Tesco was £250,000
