Egads, Stephen, this analogy is totally off base, and Ed and his peanut
gallery are going to gang rape you with it, logically.

The subject is way too big for me to do it justice in a quick reply, so I'll
commit to a serious write up later this week, under a separate subject (this
is a wee bit off the original topic). ;)

It's easily the subject of a tome of books, let alone an email post. :)

Suffice to say that:

1. The God of the OT is the very same God of the NT, in every particular,
yea, even the particulars that appear to paint god as moody and unmerciful
and everything we believe Jesus isn't;

2. There is no contradiction in the concepts of justice between the OT and
the NT--though I perfectly understand how foreign the one appears to the
other on the surface to someone who doesn't know how to read Scripture, or
have spiritual discernment to help find the real meaning;

3. This subject actually gets to the heart of the creative purpose of God as
expressed through the redemptive mission of His Son in human history, and
the deeper meaning of the original "fall" (as it is misleadingly called), so
it's worth pondering a bit more seriously.
