Sure, but (presumably) you have to tie up a PC 'back at base' to be
remote controlled, which obviously is fine for some cases. But what if
you had 5 or 10 remote users? 

RDP is a different thing really - the sessions all run on the server. It
can also (IIRC) tell a host 'draw a window here with these
characteristics' to save bandwidth, rather than sending a screen bitmap
which is what LogMeIn, VNC et al do.
