the video is about Grenoble's tramway !!!!

I am busy by now and I didn't answer yet to your questions but i'll do 
it !!!

In France you must take care of words :
1) tramways (urban train) are running within the city (max speed is 
70km/h) and as you can see tracks are shared with cars (just a little 
mainly police, ambulances, firemen and taxis) and with people. You can 
see, too, 'grass' tracks (track with grass between the rails) : it's a 
mean to lower noise (very efficient), to avoid cars and bicycle to run 
on the tracks and to .... improve dog's toilets !!!

2) suburban trains rune up to 120Km/h on the National rail company. No 
car, no people on the tracks. safety (block system) as in a high speed 
train.

In Germany (Karlsruhe for example) you have suburban trains going inside 
the cities : it is more expensive to build but very efficient. I'll try 
to find an URL.
