I was pleasantly surprised with the volume of new features they are going to present in a variety of products this year. We saw a great deal of information on Team Foundation Server 2010, which makes up for a lot of the short comings in the 2005/2008 product. Much better overall control on projects and lifespans as well as stand alone testing for QA teams that will capture the total picture of what when on.
They also showed C# improvements for 2010. I won a book knowing what IRON stood for in IRONPython or IRONRuby. The evangelist said I was the first one this year to know that answer. "I Run On .Net" We saw Windows 7 and IE8. IE8 is still not up to firefox but it is getting close. There is a lot of copy what is so good in FF in the product! Best part we saw in IE8 was side by side language conversion. Real fast and we had one of our Chinese members verify the translation that M$ did for a few corporate sites. Win7 does a good job in display of what is currently open. Put the mouse over the IE icon in the status bar and it will show you all of the tabs that are, if you have two IE's oopen it will show ALL the tabs. Same goes for word, excel, hey it was a M$ snake oil night so guess what he was showing. We got some heads up M$ and their cloud. They are dropping into semi tractor trailers a data center. 2000 servers and a san or two are on each trailer. Those trailers are parked in an uncovered complex and when enough servers go south they just replace the trailer. No techs need in the field with these, it is an all of nothing type of hardware push. Don't worry you don't own one or 100 of those servers. You just rent the ability to be placed there and they take over all the crap logistics and steel from there. Your data is maintained and your apps are as well. If your on one of the boxes that craps out you get sent to a new one without you having to do anything. Same for your data. No pricing as of yet. :( -- Stephen Russell Sr. Production Systems Programmer Web and Windows Development Independent Contractor Memphis TN 901.246-0159 _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
