True, but the discussion concerned long-term members. It's a shame
that this community has to contain so many obnoxious and uninteresting
people, but it is what it is.

They can't, if by "survive" you mean maintain high standards of
discourse across all posts. But if its members recognize the nature of
such open fora, they understand the need to self-police. It would be
great if nobody fed the trolls, but I never expect that to happen, so
I continue to filter out both the trolls and the troll-feeders.
