I know it's not exactly hip to defend investment bankers these days but what is really happening is SO not about them, it's not funny. Their real crime is putting themselves through this -- and giving Government the power to take over private industry -- all for the sake of papering over their mistakes so they can keep their jobs. Government is all too happy to oblige since the power it gets in return lets it pull stunts like this to deflect its own culpability in what's going on.
