Ken:

I've set up several of my clients on gmail and route several of my own
domains through there and have generally been pleased with the
service. However, they've been having a lot of trouble in the last
week where I've been unable to connect, so it may just be a transient
thing.

Are you using gmail via the web interface or with a local client? If a
local client, you often need to use your local ISP to send mail (the
SMTP settings) while using Google to recieve (POP3 or IMAP) because
most ISPs don't want you sending mail except through their systems, as
a simple spam prevention technique. Alternatively, you can set up
Google as the SMTP client, but you need to configure it using SSL on a
non-standard port.
