IM and before that Lotus Notes.

Are going after groups of users or jsut to a single person, or a
particular workstation on your network?

As network security as increased drastically it gets harder to reach
out and touch someone.  Routers and firewalls are designed to stop
this sort of thing.

Could you make a message table and set a recurring job to query that?
 If there are any messages pop open your VFP window and display it?

Are you trying to get someones attention on a shop floor?
"The last sample you sent in failed tests.  Please come by the test
center to identify the problem."

In this case it is not John Doe who we want but the operator at wsID 2355.
