Here's another little pearl for you Pete LOL.  The Linux rm *.* command 
would only delete files that had a "." or a ".ext" for example. 
Otherwise the rm *.* command would not find/match the file.

The old *.* mask was the way to go for deleting files in the old 
DOS/Windows file system, until they changed, relatively recently.  Is 
this fun or what?  LOL
