Well it appears that ADO or VBA or the combination of these speak American despite what any regional settings on the machine might be. Formatting with dd/mm/yyyy either as part of the automation or manually afterwards makes no difference.
What I've had to do is make the column Text-type, let them populate and then post-process each cell value to switch month and day. Kludgy, but there we are.
