Are you sure it's a race condition with the View and NOT indexing tools all getting access to the file and some anti-virus that temporary locks the file for EACH of the indexers hitting it?
I'd go for the WHILE loop to get an exclusive LLFF lock. It serves as a general check that things are OK. The apparent race condition is from the generation triggering Adobe Acrobat to open the file. I think I will see if I can install two copies of the printer driver and then instead of printing once and copying, I would print twice, once to each driver. The second driver would have display turned off.
