Raphael,
It was Paul McNett who did the pioneering work on VFP. I think that the
current state is unchanged to as it was a couple of years ago in that the
EULA in VFP9 forbids the use of VFP on a non windows O/S. VFP6 is different
and doesn't seem to have this restriction if you can live with it.

As for the actual running, paul managed to get most features up and going in
conjunction with the "wine" project and for a while it was one of their top
apps to convert and test out fully on Linux.

See his white paper at:
http://paulmcnett.com/vfp/wine/vfp-wine-whitepaper.pdf

As usual the M$ guys don't want to see VFP on Linux due to purely commercial
reasons and in fact at one stage threatened Whil Hentzen with legal action
to stop him demonstrating it working under Linux. See the
www.Hentzenwerke.com website for more details.

Subject: vfp9 and linux

One of my clientes asked me these questions:

If my company server is a Linux box, can your vfp9 application be installed
in it?
If the client machines also run on Linux, can just accessing the server app
from an icon work?
If so, which Linux dialect, or what patches should be used?

The above are technical questions.

What about the legal issues involved?

I know that these questions were asked many times in the past, but I never
really bothered considering them because up until now none of my clients had
any problems with using Windows OS's. However, this particular new client
has all his other applications running on Linux and they will not install a
Windows operating system just to use my VFP9 app.
