A simple tool that can do this is VirtualDub.

Open the AVI and use the 2 icons at the bottom of the screen to select
the section.
Choose Save as AVI from the file menu.  Repeat.

Remember to select 'direct stream copy' from the video & audio menu!
(else you'll end up with huge files)
