Hi Bob,

This inspires a third rule of thumb. Whenever a politician hides 
*anything* personal it is a) of essential public interest and b) fatal 
to his position.

I said "personal". I can conceive of "state secrets" but these would 
never include stuff about *him* that predated his public life.
