Archive moves the message out of the inbox. It still appears in All Mail and any labels you have applied. To make stuff go away forever, delete it/move to trash and then empty the trash.

Hey - -- Gmail abusers out there -- - -- - - - I have started using Gmail for one of my email accounts. Getting to like it quite a bit, and I'm thinking about using it for other accounts. Question, though: When one creates a filter based on a label, the messages still show up in the Inbox. I don't want that, I just want the "filtered" messages to show up next to the "Labels" below the Inbox. I see the choice in the filter creation dialog that says "Skip the Inbox." Sounds to me like just what I want, but it also says "(Archive it)." The "Archive" word stops me from just experimenting to see if that is what happens. So does it? If you choose "Skip the Inbox" does it still show up next to the Labels?
