It was during the actual installation and not the compile, that would complete with no issues.
I was able to solve this and it turned out to be stupid, to me anyhow. The problem was not with the DestDir but the DefaultGroupName which had a question mark (?) at the end of it. Not sure why I had it there but I'm sure that it came from the example that I was basing my initial setup on.
