The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Wednesday night injected race into the
national debate on health care, saying any black lawmaker who votes
against President Obama's sweeping overhaul isn't really black, the
Hill newspaper reported.

"We even have blacks voting against the health care bill," Jackson
reportedly said at a Congressional Black Caucus reception Wednesday
night honoring the 25th anniversary of the civil rights leader's run
for president.

"You can't vote against health care and call yourself a black man,"
the Hill reported him saying.

The remark was a clear shot at Rep. Artur Davis, D-Ala., the only
member of the CBC to vote against the House version of the health care
legislation.

Phew. And I was worried I would have to vote for it.

What I don't get is how racist lunatics like Jackson can get taken seriously.

"It ought never to be forgotten, that a firm union of this country,
under an efficient government, will probably be an increasing object
of jealousy to more than one nation of Europe; and that enterprises to
subvert it will sometimes originate in the intrigues of foreign
powers, and will seldom fail to be patronized and abetted by some of
them. Its preservation, therefore ought in no case that can be
avoided, to be committed to the guardianship of any but those whose
situation will uniformly beget an immediate interest in the faithful
and vigilant performance of the trust." [Federalist Papers #59]
