displays of 'iggorance' are common in this industry. I bought a book on
dotnet for VFP programmers and ended up learning more about VFP including
things it is embarassing that i didnt know. in the end, as long as your app
works, how you did it isnt as important.

But I'm a bit reluctant to share cos it shows my iggorance ...........

Anyway, here's what happened
The barcode reader function would copy a file into a designated folder
(freetask.upd)
I originally set this up (\optiscan) and made a batch file to copy this into
the app folder when required. I did it this way for specific reasons but
won't bore you with details.

The application was accessed by the workstation, where the app was in a
drive (T:)
My app would import the files from the \optiscan folder i.e. ! import.bat

The \optiscan folder had an empty file called freetask.upd
(That was the killer because my import routine always checked to make sure
the file freetask.upd did indeed exist)

Without my knowledge, they had changed the barcode set up to download the
file directly into the app folder, so everytime they ran the import routine,
it was copying the empty freetask.upd file
Running it from my Remote Desktop, the optiscan folder was not accessible so
the "true" file was not overwritten, hence it was working as designed.

Some of the comments made by you (my buddies) made me check "outside the
square" and I discovered the problem

now for my next challenge...................
Did any of you like my Excel 2007 import workaround ?
