Dreamweaver will pull a site down, as will Frontpage and many other
development tools.

I am so sorry for your lose.  We too are going through some losses
just now.  Never good.

Try HTTRACK.  I have used is several times with good results as longs
as there are no data files (DHTML) involved.  For the data files you
may need to get a copy from the host.
