President Obama, as usual, delivered a very good speech. He was posed, confident, and well dressed, which quickly relaxed his audience. He didn't make any bloopers. He believed in what he was saying, which came across loud and clear to both his live West Point audience and his TV audience watching from around world. However, I'm not sure that increasing our military presence in Afghanistan is such a good idea. Al Quada is a band of rouge Muslim, (eg criminals), carrying out guerrilla operation against traget across the globe. Al Quada has no country, pledges allegiance to no flag, wear no uniform, and moves from place to place like nomads to stay one step ahead of those in pursuit. Afghanistan is a country with a long history of violent struggle, sometime against foreign powers that attempt to occupy her, but failing to have a foreign occupier, the Afghans war internal among themselves. I don't know how you would go about eliminating corruption within a country like Afghanistan, whose principal economic export is heroin produced from her poppie crops. In most countries the farmers producing poppies would be criminals, and government officials that allowed the production of the poppie crops within their country would also be cast as criminals. Trying to eliminate corruption in Afghanistan would be like trying to eliminate corruption in American, if the American people and the USA government were all members of the mafia, dealing drugs, arms, and violence as the countries primary exports to other countries around the world. Does anyone else feel like there is something wrong with this picture.
