That has been the case for some time, at least for some of us. A couple of my clients run a Linux server to host their files and shared documents. They don't have problems with the vendors switching to incompatible SMB protocols. They don't have licensing issues with remote control software (VNC and ssh and/or RDP) changing from version to version, Gil's big complaint. They can run world-class software: web serving (Apache), email (PostFix/Sendmail), database (FoxPro DBF serving via Samba, or MySQL/PostgreSQL), groupware, etc. And, of course, it's firewalled (iptables), virus-scanned (ClamAV) and intrusion-protected (Tripwire, etc.) So, what advantages would there be to running Windows Server? -- Ted Roche Ted Roche & Associates, LLC http://www.tedroche.com _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[email protected] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
