A little further down in the article is this doozy: "This would fill nearly 10,000 Olympic swimming pools, and is the same amount produced each year by 2,300 Americans or 660,000 Ethiopians -- the vast difference is due to the huge gap in consumption patterns in the two countries -- according to U.S. government statistics about per person emissions in 2006." In order for us to be like the Ethiopians we'd have to gut our private industry and scare capital investment away for decades, like the Ethiopian political establishment has. The administration appears to be on top of that strategy, big time. And rest assured even if we forked over all our capital in the form of "climate debt" to them, their consumption would immediately replace ours. It is not by choice that they are in poverty... oops I mean carbon-virtuous. Rather, it is because they live in a place that has not known large-scale capital accumulation, well, ever. At the end of the day this whole thing is about wealth redistribution, not saving the planet. For crying out loud even Obama's "czars" like John Holdren say this explicitly in their books. Why do people not read what they write? Why does everyone pretend like these frauds are piously trying to save humanity? All they're really trying to do is destroy the current political order. And we, for some reason (perhaps a feeling of guilt), are going along like sheep to the slaughter. If we were serious about who the polluters are, we'd learn that it's not consumption that is 'causing' all this disaster, but production, and the countries doing the production are in the East, not the West anymore. Merely fleecing America won't reverse any ecologically damaging trends, the real culprits are China, India, et al----which is also where the population problem -- if we allow such a term among civilized people -- also happens to be a reality. Population trends in the West are going down, not up----it's the East where it's all exploding. Who are we kidding by pretending a large-scale looting of the West is going to stop any of these trends? To the contrary, it will only exacerbate them. Why are we not allowed to think these things through? Because it's a scam, that's why. Don't question, just go along like bleating sheep, all hail the orthodoxy.
